משפחה - אורניים Pinaceae. עץ מחטני ירוק עד, גדל כעץ בר בארץ, המגיע לגובה 15 מ’. העץ מכיל שרף ובו חומרים אורגניים נדיפים. תכונה זאת גורמת לו להיות דליק ביותר ולהיפגע בקלות בשריפה.
