Populus alba

White Poplar
Populus alba

Natural range: Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan

Think white. Different white and black patterns make each trunk in this row unique. The whole row is of male trees, their white flowers releasing pollen. Whitish leaf undersides flash in the summer breeze. These beauties whiten many Jerusalem streets.

[a question]
If you saw these white and black trunk patterns in a museum, would you consider them art? (Notice also the bit of color - delicate sprinkles of green/orange lichens composed of algae + fungi.)

[The Answer to the question]
Art is in the eye of the viewer. You decide if the trunks of these trees could be art.
