As described in the summary on the sign, the Sixth Battalion was established in Jerusalem by members of Company H of the Second Battalion, and people from the Jerusalem Reserve of the Palmach. At first, the battalion numbered about 150 people and its main task was to protect the convoys arriving in Jerusalem.
