The bridge is called the Baybars Bridge after the Mamluk Sultan starting from1260, who built many buildings in the Land of Israel including forts and bridges.

Translation of the text on the sign:
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and his prayers be upon our master Muhammad, his family and all his companions.
Rukn al-Din Baybars Ibn Abdullah in the days of his son, Mawlana the King (..) Al-Saeed Nasir al-Din Baraka Khan, may God bless their supporters and forgive them, and that in the mandate of the poor servant, to his mercy, Ala al-Din al-Saqq, may God forgive him and his parents in the month of Ramadan in the year seventy-one
