The first furrow in Petah Tikva Here, in this place, on the eve of Hanukkah, Lamed. Kislev, December 1878, two days after the first rains, a group of settlers gathered to perform the first plowing and sowing.
The plowing of the plow to make the first furrow fell to Yehuda Rab, followed by David Gutman, Yehoshua Stampfer, David Ragnar, Natan Greengert and Eliezer Rab, Yehuda’s father.
Joshua Stampfer, when he caught the plow, got excited, burst into tears and said:
"We are blessed to have won this, being walking after the first furrow that plows a Jewish plow in the land of the prophets, having been absent from the land of our fathers, for the years of the long exile, Blessed are You, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion."
