שם הרחוב נועד להחליף ציון סתמי שקדם לו. חברי ועד השמות קיבלו החלטה ב-1954 שלפיה רחובות צרים ולא סלולים ואולי עומדים להריסה, אין לקבוע שמות זכרון קבועים מפני הכבוד.

The street name was meant to replace a precocious landmark that preceded it. Members of the Names Committee passed a resolution in 1954 stating that narrow, unpaved streets that might be demolished should not be fixed in permanent memory so as not to impair the dignity of the name bearers.
