Station No. 5 in the historic Oxford Castle route, consisting of 14 plaques depicting landmarks on the site from 700 AD to 2006

King Stephen - the last Norman kings in England, battles with Empress Maude (Mathilda) the daughter of the previous king (Henry I) who was eligible for the throne. In 1142, his forces laid siege to Oxford Castle, which she had been staying, but she managed to escape.
