The city of Stockholm welcomes you to fish her waters free of charge. Every year anglers catch hundreds of salmon and sea trout.
Above you can see a newly caught sea trout, some hoop-net boats from 1941, sea trout in different stages of development and an adult salmon. The sign also shows sea trout and salmon males in spawning colours.
The map shows where fast flowing stretches of water usually occur, i.e good salmon and sea trout habitats.

Comments:
The sign focuses on two fish that can be fished in the river: salmon and trout.
In addition, these fish appear on the sign at different levels of development

Welcome to free hand gear fishing in Stockholm’s stream
Some 30 species of fish make Strömmen the most species-rich fishing lake in the Stockholm region. Most famous is the fishing for sea trout in autumn, winter and spring and salmon in summer and autumn. Norse, sturgeon, bream and perch are found in large quantities during the spawning season in the spring. Perch, zander and large pike are mainly fished during late winter until summer.

Fishing in the Strömmen has been free for Stockholmers for a long time. The right to fish on the Crown’s waters was regulated by the Riksrådet as early as 1436 and in Queen Kristina’s privilege letter in 1632.
In 1985, the law on free hand gear fishing was introduced in Mälaren and the archipelago and thus also applies in Strömmen.

Picture 1
July salmon caught at the Opera.

Every year, hundreds of salmon and trout are caught in Stockholm’s stream.
The record for salmon is 21.8 kg, but larger ones have been caught, something to consider when choosing fishing equipment. 10-13 foot rod with 0.35-0.60mm line recommended.
A good water flow increases the conditions for successful fishing for salmon and sea trout.
The entire stretch between the town hall up on Lake Mälaren and Blockhusudden on Djurgården has good salmon and trout fishing

Picture 2
Longboat fisherman. 1941. Increasingly cleaner water in collaboration with sustained fisheries management has now given Stockholm’s stream a unique fishery.

Håvbåts are mentioned as early as 1520. During the 1930s and 1940s there were roughly 50 håvbåts. Nowadays, there are three older and one newly built lift boat in Strömmen.
How good the salmon and trout fishing once was is not known for sure. In 1771, King Adolf Fredrik is said to have planted salmon and eel at the Castle. A successful trial in 1973 led to larger-scale releases from 1976.
About 25,000 smolts are planted each year. The natural reproduction is disadvantaged by regulated water flow, so the releases ensure fishing

In the sea, salmon and oring have the same silvery camouflage markings and are otherwise sparing. Oringen hunts sturgeon, small fish and small animals in the archipelago, while the salmon grows large on sturgeon and sprat in the sea around Gotland and Bornholm. In autumn it is time for play

Picture 3
Stockholm offers many fishing spots. Sea trout caught between Riksbron and Norrbro.

Adults, dark-colored, playfully play in the late autumn in Strommenleken, best seen from Norrbro. The male’s lower jaw is transformed into a hook to help when he fights for his territory. The rumen is covered with gravel by the female. The spawning fish then return to the sea.

Picture 5

During the winter, water seeps through the gravel pile with the rum hidden there.
In the spring, the roe hatches, the 20 mm yolk sac fry soon becomes a sturgeon, salmon or sea trout fry, which lives in brackish water for 1-3 years.
A spring when the young is ripe for life in the sea, about 15 cm large, it is called a smolt. Then it becomes silver-colored and imprinted on the watercourse it migrates from. 2-4 years later it returns as an adult to play.
At Avaån in Tyresö, game rings are caught every autumn, cuddling with rum and milk. After fertilization, the roe are placed on a salmon farm. After 1.5-2.5 years, the trout fry are planted in Strömmen and in restored streams that open into the archipelago.
